Your Block Club is Working for You!

Potomac 400 Block Club Gets Major Grant!

Our Block Club was awarded a Livable Communities Grant by the City of Buffalo. This will allowed us to bring 20 huge planters to our block. We worked with Urban Roots, a co-op gardening center located on Rhode Island, to create flower filled planters to beautify our block.

Among our other activities are:

We have developed a phone tree to notify residents in case of emergency.

We are working on more grants to be used for clean-up and meeting expenses.

We have contacted city officials about the sewer back up on the south side of the street.

We have contacted Buffalo housing inspectors to insure that those homes which are ruining property values and in general are just making the area look trashy are brought up to code. This is ongoing, but has resulted in several homeowners being brought to housing court and forced to upgrade their properties. Some are still are still facing housing court hearing dates, but your Block Club is in constant contact with City officials about problem owners. Come and make your voice heard if you have concerns about properties on the block.

We contacted city and Niagara Grid officials about the constant power outages on the north side of the street after the October surprise storm. Hopefully, this seems to be fixed!

We have also contacted city officials and police about drug dealing in the area; graffiti on the stop signs at corners; filling the pot hole at the corner of Baynes and Potomac.

We notify residents of upcoming opportunities to meet with city officials about neighborhood issues. Councilman David Rivera came to meet with us at several meetings.
